As the year ends seniors are leaving WHBHS behind. From California to Madrid, Westhampton Beach will be represented everywhere. The excitement of the future floods through the seniors’ minds along with sadness as they leave this place where their best memories have been made.
Many of our Class of 2024 seniors committed to great schools to play in the next level of their sports. Quarterback Will Gambino says, “I feel pretty excited to graduate, these four years have been long and it’s nice to move on to new things. I’m super excited to play college football and see where it takes me.”
Our lacrosse commit to Manhattan College, Will Drake, says, “I am definitely going to miss WHB. Especially the friends that I have been with since elementary and middle school. I am excited to play in college, make new friends, and travel around the country to play other D1 teams.” At Westhampton being on a team is more than just playing together; our teams feel like a second family so leaving them is one of the hardest parts.
It can be hard to adjust when moving away from home after having such amazing family and friends close by every day. Gabby Wendel, incoming freshman at Bentley University, says, “I’m going to miss my family the most. Living without them is going to be so different and difficult because I won’t be able to depend on them as much, but it’s a challenge I’m ready to face.”
Some people are already adjusted to living away from home and ready to travel the world. Going all the way over to Madrid, our very own Gioia Benenati says, “I’m so excited to be in a different country, see all the places that I haven’t already been to, and study the business world.”
Being here the last four years in the glorious town we call home, with our beautiful beaches, and amazing delis, leaving all of that is definitely hard. Katie Baker, who’s committed to Marywood University for soccer says, “I am so excited to start college, especially my soccer career at the next level, but without a doubt I will be missing my hometown, a bacon egg and cheese everyday and the beach.”
Westhampton Beach High School is sad to see the Class of 2024 leave but beyond excited to see what everyone will accomplish.
