High School Students Lose Spring Sports Season

High school seniors and athletes are left without a spring season due to the health concerns raised by the coronavirus after the state of New York  cancelled the spring sports season. The spread of COVID-19 has made it nearly impossible to continue school regularly.

Section XI official Tom Combs stated that, “This decision was made in the best interest of the health and safety of all our student athletes, staff and communities.”

The main worry for many governments and people is safety of players, parents, and officials. Arizona AIA executive director David Hines holds those values as well as many different governments. “We know this decision was a hard one, but one that was necessary to assist in the well-being of everyone across Arizona. We hope everyone stays healthy and focused on what the next chapter will bring.”

The players are heart broken that they will not be able to receive a last chance at playing a sport for the rest of their life. Westhampton beach senior Gage Rubio said, “It was our last shot. We were hoping the season would return because for many of us this was our last chance to compete in our sport for the rest of our lives.”

Covid-19 has changed everyone’s life. It has cancelled schools and sports seasons. This shouldn’t be taken lightly. People need to take part in socially distancing, and stay home.
