This summer, the district will finally be breaking ground on the stadium surrounding the turf. The new stadium will up-scale WHBHS facilities. Work on the concession stand has already begun, and new space will be added for equipment to be stored.
Athletic director Mr. Cohen said, “As you can see work has begun and they are making great progress.” It is expected to be finished in time for September and will add to the Friday Night Lights’ atmosphere.
Football coach Bryan Schaumloffel offered insight. “A new stadium for Westhampton is long overdue. I always liked the small-town feel of our current stadium but as a community we have outgrown our current situation.” Coach Schaumloffel has been in the Westhampton Beach community as a coach and community member for more then 20 years now he has seen the evolution of our town and how much its expanding.
Cohen shared plans on what to expect. He said, “Coming is a brand new comfort station/concession stand. This new structure will be relocated to the north end of the home bleachers. Moving it to this location gives way to increased seating as the new bleachers will occupy the space where the old concession stand was and the bleachers will also extend a bit further on each end. A new press box will be mounted atop the bleachers with exterior filming platforms on each side and on top. In addition a new set of visitors’ bleachers will be installed as well.”
Going forward, Schaumloffel thinks the new stadium may give us an edge on the competition. He said, “I think the new stadium will only help with the home field advantage we have developed over the last 10 years. It will make coming to the game a better experience and hopefully even more students and community members will attend.”
Cohen agreed, “The new facility will be sure to impress.“
