A new year means new year’s resolutions. Starting January 1st, hopeful people set goals to better themselves.
The three most popular new year’s resolutions are weight loss, exercise more, and better organization. Twenty percent of people have to lose weight as part of their new year’s resolutions, 80% want to exercise more, and twenty percent of people want to be better organized
WHB students shared their resolutions. Sophomore Mia Brown said, “I want to get better grades so I will study after school everyday, though I think it will only last a week.” Research shows that out of all 60% of people making resolutions, only 8% actually go through with them.
Studies say It’s harder for high school students to follow through with their New Year’s resolutions because of the busy schedules. More than half of high school students are tired after school and 80% don’t get enough sleep per night. This can affect high school students in trying to achieve their new year’s resolutions. It might be better to start off with a more simple resolution.
Senior Julia Ryicker said, “I want to go to the gym more and I’ll do this by not falling asleep after school.”
Social studies teacher Mr. Hilly said, “I want to have more patience,” Hilly hopes to achieve this by being more conscious.
Studies show almost half of New Year’s Resolutions involve fitness. New year’s resolutions are hard to go through with, especially if it’s something that is normally in your daily routine, this is why starting off with a more realistic and simple resolution would increase the percentage of people keeping their resolutions.
Freshmen Angel Leader and Jacob Ryvicker said their goal was to get better at a sport. Angel said, “I want to get better at lacrosse and I will do this by practicing everyday.”
Jacob Ryvicker shared, “My resolution is to get better at pickleball and I will achieve this by practicing in and out of school.”
If all else fails, set an unrealistic goal like sophomore Max DeBellis, and avoid being disappointed. Max joked, “I want to grow three feet and be able to dunk a basketball and I will achieve that by going on Ashwagandha.”
Good luck Max, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
