Last week, students participated in Westhampton Beach’s Spirit Week with the homecoming game on Friday, October 18th.
On Tuesday, October 15th, students participated in Jersey Day. Students wore their school team jersey or favorite sports team jersey.
On Wednesday, students participated in Anything but a Backpack Day. Students ditched their regular backpacks for creative items, such as suitcases and coolers, to carry their school books.
Students matched outfits with their peers on Thursday, Twin Day. Lastly, on Friday, students wore their class colors. Freshman wore black, sophomores wore gray, juniors wore green, and seniors wore white or togas.
Student Government Executive President Luciana Reilly explained how the themes were picked. She said, “At our first student government meeting, all members collaborated on coming up with ideas for spirit week, and we sent out a questionnaire on all our platforms asking for suggestions. Then, we gathered the themes brought up at the meeting and submitted them on our google form to create a new google form.
This form was then sent to every first period teacher, and all students were invited to vote for their favorite days. Spirit days were chosen based on what themes received the most votes!”
At the pep rally on Friday, it was announced that freshmen showed the most spirit throughout the week and the juniors won bleacher decorating. Bleacher decorations were based on popular cartoons. Freshman were Curious George, sophomores, Charlie Brown, juniors were Mickey Mouse and seniors, Spongebob.
The pep rally gave students and staff the opportunity to be introduced to the varsity sports teams. Lauren Glynn, right side on the girls varsity volleyball team, said, “It was really exciting to have my name announced at the pep rally and have the opportunity to run out with my team.”
This year, musical chairs were a new addition to the pep rally. Lily Graves beat out Aidan Arrasate for a $10 gift card prize to local Hurricane Deli.
Thank you student government and staff for a great Spirit Week and pep rally!
