College planning and decisions are no longer just around the corner for the class of 2025. Since September seniors have been busy filling out applications and writing college essays, bringing out the stress that has been anticipated for the last four years.
Early action deadlines are coming in only a few weeks. After finishing the supplements and turning in her application, senior Isabelle Schneider said, It’s a long lengthy process. Everyone should at least start their college search junior year, going into the summer so It’s less overwhelming when trying to narrow down your search.
Many seniors agreed that finding a topic for their essay has been the most time consuming.
Isabelle said, “ Your essay should be about something you believe has changed you as a person, and will show colleges not just your academic abilities, but your ability to navigate through life. Which is not easy, but once you start writing the words should come easy.”
Even though every senior is crunching down on college applications, majors are still being contemplated. Senior Jason Passarello is planning on staying undecided while attending Suffolk Community College for two years.
Although some seniors have known what they’ve wanted to do for the past two years. Sarah Tedesco has been enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program at Boces since junior year. She hopes to attend Suny Oneonta pursuing Elementary Education.
College progress has been a rollercoaster of emotions for our seniors. During this process seniors have begun the journey to the rest of their lives, which will require them to be organized, motivated, and persistent.
School social worker, Mrs Gebhart, offered some advice for seniors. “If you don’t get into a school that you were hoping to, try to see it as a redirection NOT a rejection. There is a purpose for everything and this just means that there is something better for you out there.”
