Flag Football is the newest sport being offered to girls at many schools on Long Island. The sport is thriving and girls in Westhampton want it here and want it now.

According to the Sports AD, Mr. Cohen, “No one has gone anywhere with the flag Football process.” Some students have tried to register this as a girl’s sport, but the process includes getting approval from the Board, raising money, finding practice space, getting uniforms, etc… it’s a huge and expensive process that this needs to go through.
Recently a parent square survey was sent to the student body in an attempt to engage the students’ and their opinion on this becoming a potential sport. A lot of students took this the wrong way and thought this was coming to the school this year. Knowing this upsetted a lot of seniors thinking they could play a fun sport for their last year of High School.
Senior Kaya Hughes said, “I think that flag football is an original and new sport that girls have not gotten to experience yet at Westhampton and it is progressive, it will get girls more involved with the school and sports.”
In reality, if all goes well this sport has the potential to be registered in the next spring season.
