What’s SUP Summer?
Looking for a way to calm the mind, heal the body, and increase balance, flexibility, and strength all while having fun and being on the water? Then SUP yoga just may be the perfect summer outing to try!
For the past three summers, Westhampton Beach’s very own Señora Kearns has been teaching stand-up paddleboard yoga, or SUP yoga as it is popularly known. After being a yoga teacher for many years and paddle boarding since 2008 she decided to combine her to loves. Kearns preaches that SUP yoga is for everyone saying, “I have clients that are children and clients that are 76 years old. As long as you listen to your body anyone can do it.” Her only tidbit of wisdom is “Remember that [yoga] is never a competition. It’s a practice that you do for your own self.”
Kearns classes are 10-11:30am Saturdays Memorial Day-Labor Day weekends on the bay in either Westhampton or Quogue depending on conditions. To sign up go to www.hamptonsyogahealingarts.com or http://www.denizziekearnsyoga.com/ for more information.
And no need to worry about obtaining a paddleboard. Just contact Island Surf, who has been renting to Kearns’s classes for 3 years, the day before class and they will deliver a board at class location and even pick it up! Additionally a new paddleboard/kayak rental shop, Pontoon Paddlers, has opened up in Westhampton Beach and does hourly rentals (see http://pontoonpaddler.com/).
So this summer get out there, have fun, and inherit the countless benefits that SUP yoga has to offer.
Namaste Westhampton Beach and enjoy your summer!
