When an opportunity to help others comes around, Subi is there! From fireman drills to plunging into a cold ocean, when asked to help, you can count on Subi!
As a seventh grade student, Subi joined the WHB Junior Fire Department. As a junior fireman, he does everything that a fireman would do, besides going on calls; he practices drills such as dry chemical drills, drafting, and putting out car fires.
The Junior Fire Department also helps out the community by shoveling snow, baking and delivering cookies for widows and widowers around Christmas time, and caroling in town. Subi plans to become a volunteer firefighter when he turns 18.
Also, Subi regularly volunteers to play piano for retired citizens in Aquebogue. His piano teacher told him about this opportunity and he wanted to get involved. Subi’s songs for the retirees bring smiles to their faces. “It makes people happy,” he tells me.
On top of this, Subi volunteers at the Hampton Bays Soup Kitchen, serving food to the homeless. And, on December 11th, Subi participated in the Polar Bear Plunge for the first time and almost lost his hat in the ocean. The Polar Bear Plunge raises money to purchase food for the food pantry of the Human Resources of the Hamptons.
“It feels really good to give back,” Subi tells me, “and I have fun doing it.”
