The WHB boys baseball team is looking to bounce back with a new season coming. After two rough years in a row, the team expects to make their first playoff appearance since 2020.
With the team starting up their 2025 season, Coach Grunenwald shared the goals for the season. “Our team goal is making the playoffs, but we can only get there by competing on a game to game basis. Our real goal for our team is to stay in the moment, and compete in every game, at-bat and situation we can. We feel that we have the athletes to compete on a daily basis in our league.”
With a solid group of returning players—many of them third-year varsity veteran, this season is all about turning potential into results after an intense off-season of training. The team is ready to build on last year’s progress and lean on the experienced players like Pat Fay, Cooper Daniels, Liam McGinness, Brian Danowski and Jacob Permakoff.
The experience and the athletes on the team now will let the play talk. “We all have our individual jobs and if we do them to the best of our abilities that’s how a team succeeds,” junior Jacob Permakoff, a pitcher for the Hurricanes said. He continued, “My goals are to hit above .300 and to make all league.”
As the season is about to begin, Westhampton Beach has high hopes for winning lots of games, and making the playoffs as their strong seniors and juniors look to lead them for the Hurricanes.
