Coming off a strong season last year, the boys WHB basketball team is looking to dominate this season.
The boys had a great team last year, going 14-2 overall. After a first round bye, the Hurricanes hosted Deer Park who defeated the Hurricanes by 10 points, 64-54.
Westhampton’s coach Connor Davis discussed how he will approach this upcoming season differently from last year, He said, “The approach is not different. We want to continue to grow and be the best team we can be. The outlook and expectations are different. I believe last year we were the hunters. No one was really concerned with us. This year we are the ones being hunted.”
This season the Hurricanes have two of Newsday’s Top 100 players in senior forward Jorden Bennett and junior guard Truman Hahn.
Jorden, soon to be wrapping up his WHB basketball career, has major goals before his time comes to a close. He shared, “I hope to become the League MVP this year, be able to be selected as a All-State player, and to score 1,000 points.”
The Hurricanes have many other key pieces to their team as well that will be very important to their success like junior guard Malachi Bullock and sophomore guard Sam Quinn.
The Canes are off to a 2-1 in league play as of December 18th and looking to continue in the win column.
With a tough road ahead and some very difficult matchups, the Hurricanes are still confident that a trip to the Long Island Championship is very possible.
