Junior Truman Hahn and senior Jorden Bennett are stepping up as captains to fill the leadership roles left by the departing seniors, taking their squad to the next level for this season.
Jorden, a four year varsity player, is stepping into his role as a captain by showing the importance of responsibility and togetherness to the team. “I have to be the one to set everyone straight and lay down the rules so there is structure to what we are doing,” said Jorden.
“I feel like I have brought everyone together and to a mutual understanding of where we need to be and go this season,” he added.
Truman, playing his third year on the varsity roster, is using his role as a captain to “be vocal and hold his teammates accountable on and off the court.” Truman relays the importance of the team giving it their all in-season. “You can’t take plays or days off,” he said.
Not only are these captains putting in the work in-season, they have been preparing themselves and their teammates all year long. Truman stated, “As a team we played in fall, spring, and summer league.”
Jorden highlighted the significance of the pre-season because of the immense progress it made for the team and for himself. “Pre-season was definitely scary, we weren’t a full complete team yet and we had a lot of new people that needed to know what was going on as soon as possible.”
“I worked consistently in the off-season on my whole game to make sure that I brought the skills and mindset to the table that we need to succeed this season,” he added.
Jorden explained the ability to work on himself allowed him to lead his team through the adversity presented in the off-season, getting them to where they are now.
As captains, Jorden and Truman have certain goals set for the Hurricane Hoopers. “Our main goal as a team is to win a county championship,” Truman said.
“We have a great team that I get to be a leader of and we are capable of winning the county chip.”
