The Hurricane football team is taking it one day at a time preparing for the final stretch of the regular season.
Through all the injuries and adversity they have continued to stay strong and work their way back into that playoff picture as a true contender. The team had a hard start to the season, facing both the one and two seeds in the first three weeks. They have made a turn for the best these last three weeks, winning three in a row in dominant fashion.
Senior Brody Schaffer said, “Expectations are definitely high for the last two games of the season. Every day at practice we continue to work hard and get better. We expect to beat both teams we play, but that does not mean it will be given to us, so the team is continuing to stay focused and poised to be better than our opponents.”
Schaffer has nothing but confidence in his team for this final stretch. Winning three in a row has given a sense of optimism for the Canes. With the starting quarterback, Jake Calloway returning the team is at its full strength at the right time.
According to head coach Schaumloffel, the team’s success isn’t due to a change on their end. He said, “Nothing really changed besides the untimely injuries. It’s a part of football. The team continued to work as hard as they did since week one. We also had a hard beginning to the schedule but we stayed positive throughout it.”
The Hurricanes defeated Kings Park on Friday night in their last home game of the season. Next up is first round of playoffs on 11/8 vs. Comsewogue at home. Come out and support the Canes!
