The boys varsity football team is expecting a lot out of the five sophomores who were pulled up on varsity this 2024 season. Andrew Lewis, Jake Calloway, Jaedyn Cobb, Nicholas Simone, and Liam Brand are the new additions to the team this year.
Sophomore quarterback,
Jake Calloway, had his first game back from injury on homecoming, against Hauppauge. Calloway got injured in the first game this season, against Half Hollow Hills West. Jake said, “I was doing as much as I could to make myself better, in terms of practice from when I was able to play again. I needed to shake the rust off and kind of learn everything again in terms of the mental and physical aspect.”
Calloway also said that “
The coaches did an amazing job preparing the team for the game.” After taking time off, he returned and had a phenomenal first gam
e back. Jake had six to
uchdowns, ran 13 times for 166 yards, and completed 11 out of his 16 passes for 109 yards. Calloway led the Hurricanes to the win. The final score was 49-10.
Sophomore linebacker Andrew Lewis also had a phenomenal defensive game. Jake said, “I think
Andrew played awesome. He had a bunch of huge plays for us that contributed to the win.” Andrew made six tackles and a forced fumble on defense.
Andrew said, “I felt confident and prepared out on the field. Anytime the defense can create a turnover, it’s a critical point in the game.”
