The WHB Hurricanes varsity boys lacrosse team defeated rival ESM on May 26th in a close game that went into overtime.

The boys were ready and dove into this game strong and confident. Each player on the field made an impact and worked together as a team. Going into the game, junior goalie Conor Farnan says, “I felt confident in my team’s ability to get it done on the field and pull through with a big victory and big game.”

In the last quarter of the game, Robert Moore scored the game winning goal. Throughout the game, Moore had two other goals to lead the Canes to the victory. Junior Gavin Arcuri and Chris Koltzan  added one goal each to the scoreboard.

Koltazn said, “When I scored, after the assist from Danny Naglieri, celebrating with my team felt so good.”

ESM and WHB are long time rivals, the boys and fans were hype about this game. Danny Naglieri said, “Going into this game I was both nervous and excited, I knew we were a better team all around, but I knew games against our crosstown rivals are always a battle.”

From the goalie’s perspective, it was their game to win. Conor says, “I felt confident in my team’s ability to get it done on the field and pull through with a big victory and a big game.” Farnan had 15 saves, one of them being a save on a one-versus-one on goal. This was very important for the Hurricanes.

Another highlight of the game game from Chris Koltzan.  According to Conor, “ESM was coming down the field with very little time left and Koltzan hustled and got a big back check to not only stall the break but to get the ball back.” Each player made an impact on or off the field by bringing confidence and positivity to the table.

Even though this season was just 46 days due to Covid-19, the WHB Hurricanes treated it normally. The five graduates played every game like it was their last. Once a hurricane, always a hurricane.
