Athletic Spotlight: Sophomore Caroline Henke

Maureen Duffy, Staff Writer

Westhampton Beach sophomore, three sport athlete and East Quogue native Caroline Henke is truly proving to be a star on and off the field.

Caroline has been playing sports since the age of three and over the years, soccer has proven to be her favorite.  This past fall season Caroline had the honor of being pulled up to play varsity soccer. This is a big accomplishment, being that Caroline is only in her second year at the high school.  “It was my best season yet! I made a ton of news friends and even got a lot of playing time.” said Caroline.

Caroline finished the season with six goals and one assist, making her a vital member of the team.  Not only did Caroline have a great experience, she also learned from the older girls on the team, “I definitely learned that I can’t fool around all the time and need to stay focused in certain situations.” Overall Caroline definitely enjoyed her time on the team, she now looks forward to next season.

Caroline has two brothers, who also attend Westhampton Beach Schools. Cole is a senior and and Calvin is in 7th grade.  Caroline’s mom, Colleen, works at Southampton Elementary school as a third grade teacher and her dad, Chip, works as an Earth Science teacher at Mattituck high school.  Fun fact: All their names start with a C! (Their dog is even named Clementine.)

Along with being a great athlete and loving sibling, Caroline is also the friend everyone wishes they had.  Caroline has fun anywhere she goes, at places like school, soccer practice, or even work. Lifelong friend of Caroline, Abby Gobler said, “Caroline’s ability to make any situation positive and fun is one of the many reasons why she is such a good friend.”

As her sophomore year progresses Caroline continues put her best self forward.  She is looking to qualify for principal’s honor roll all four quarters this school year and even make the girls varsity basketball team.  “So far this school year has been pretty great, I’m thriving!”

We wish Caroline luck in all her endeavors!
