The girls’ volleyball team set up a 15-1 season and earned their way to their 1st playoff game on November 1st. The girls played Harborfields and won 3-0 in the Suffolk County Class A quarterfinals which was played at Westhampton.
They won the first game 25-13, the second 25-23, and the final game 25-14. The victory advances them to the semifinals.
` In the playoff game, senior co captain Camryn Bancroft had 12 kills and 4 blocks, senior co captain Sarena Choi had 6 kills, junior Emma Marino had 27 assists, freshman Belle Smith had 9 digs, and senior Brittany Palladino also had 6 digs.
Sophomore Cortina Green said the team’s success stems from the fact they are “all hard workers and we put 100% in everything that we do.” Camryn agreed, “We’re all really close and there’s no drama. We like winning.” However, the biggest factor that contributes to their success they said is their coach, Lenny Zaloga.
On Wednesday, October 26, the team hosted a fundraiser, held at Hurricane Grill in Manorville, to raise money for practice shirts, uniforms and anything else they would need through out the season. They raised $960 at the fundraiser.
For sophomore Maura Pesce, the best part about being on the team is “creating friendships that will last and learning a sport that I love.” Emma Marino said, “By the end season we feel like a family, doesn’t seem like a chore.”
Come out and support the Lady Canes this Friday in the semifinal game, against crosstown rival Eastport-South Manor.
