The boys’ soccer team experienced another loss on September 23rd, losing 2-0.
Senior goalie Ryan Burke had a nice game but allowed his first goal less than 7 minutes into the game. According to Burke the goal was dirty. He said, “Jared had the ball and the kid blatantly pushed him in the back to get the ball.”
Throughout the majority of the game the score would remain 1-0 in a tough physical matchup that tested everyone’s emotions. Jeffrey Schulz, James Brezinski, and Ryan Burke all were injured in the game and are game time decisions for tomorrow’s matchup against Eastport-South Manor. An opposing Islip player also lost a tooth.
Both coaches were very livid with the referees, especially the Islip coach, who got a yellow card for his constant screaming and yelling at the officials. The defense really played a great game but there is only so much they can do without any goal support.
On defense, Matt Higgins, Ryan Burke, and Michael Gattuso all played fantastic games. On offense, Max Pastor played a great game as well as he got many shots off at goal but nothing would go in. The offense has been a struggle all year as the team has been shut out four times this year.
Although the team suffered a loss, Pastor felt that the game was the best game of the year so far. “We played really hard and well throughout we just have to start finishing and capitalizing on opportunities.”
The loss leaves the team 0-6-1 and in league play 0-3. The team has playoff aspirations but must start clicking soon in order for that to become a reality. The next game is tomorrow, September 25, at Eastport-South Manor, another winless team, hopefully they can start to get going and use that game as momentum heading forward.
