Whether it has hit you yet or not, the seniors of WHB have seen and played their last game as a Hurricane. What will eventually be realized by every senior at some point from today until summer’s end is that Westhampton Beach sports will be missed. No matter what type of college we are going to, watching sports for the next four years will not be the same as the last four.
As we approach the final days of our high school careers, we take a look back on all the things that make WHB sports so special. There are many things that the 2013 seniors will miss. If you are someone who attended the games then it is the cold nights spent with your friends at the football games, cheering on your friends that represent the school every Friday.
For a player, it could be that you will miss the passionate hatred that takes over every time you step on the same playing surface as Eastport South Manor. It might be as simple as not being able to wear the green and white anymore. When talking to two-sport athlete, Frank Zambik, he said, “The thing that I will miss the most is definitely representing my school and playing with people I have known since elementary school.”
When we walk at graduation this June, we will not only be saying goodbye to friends and teachers, but we will also be saying goodbye to a community, a community that either cheered for you or cheered beside you, we will be saying goodbye to the green and white, and the school we represented by wearing those colors.
Not only will we miss our mom, dad, brothers and sisters, but another family will be missed as well. The family of Westhampton Beach. Say goodbye to Hurricane Nation.
