After last years forgettable season, a new coach will be trying to light a fire under the WHB Basketball team. Coach Baumiller will coach the Hurricanes starting this year. Who was a former coach at Patchogue Medford High School where he went 58-47 throughout his last five years. In 2009, he went 14-6 with Pat-Med.
“We’ve got a great group of guys who are dedicated to getting better and working hard. If everything goes right, I think we have a great shot at making the playoffs.”
Motivation and support is definitely something that this team needs in the upcoming season after last year. Seniors Elan Assayag and Matt Raynor lead the team and will play a big role in this young team’s success.
Support does not just come from the seniors but also from the Assistant Coach Ron Gholson who said his role is “to be a mentor to these kids.” He continued, saying, “Basketball is just a microscopic part of life and the opportunity to learn from a seasoned coach such as Baumiller was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up on.”
This year’s team will definitely stir up some talk around the new league, WHB will have some large expectations to be met.
Be sure to come out and support the Hurricanes this upcoming basketball season.
