When the weather outside is frightful, sometimes people can forget the true meaning of the season. From hot chocolate to Christmas lights, keeping the holiday spirit alive can be found in the season’s simple things.
The holiday spirit can hit people at different times. Sophomore Scarlett Doyle, says, “I usually get ready for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving.” Whenever you decide that it’s time for Christmas, it can be difficult to get out of the house and come up with activities since it’s cold outside, but there are definitely ways to have fun.
The Rockefeller Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center is a classic. While you are in New York City, Bryant Park Winter Village is a must. It has an ice skating rink and over 180 kiosks with food and shopping. Locally, the Riverhead Holiday Light Show and Smith Point County Park in Yaphank have memorable light shows. Remember that Christmas is all about giving, make time to do good deeds like donating clothes, toys, food, or necessities to help the less fortunate have good holidays too.
Homebodies are still capable of getting into the Christmas spirit. Watch a Christmas movie, light a scented candle, eat cookies (while drinking hot chocolate!). Decorate your house with garland, candles in the window, and wreaths. Bake homemade Christmas cookies, while listening to Christmas music, or take the easy route with the Pillsbury ones. Holiday scented items never fail to make the whole house ready for the holidays like sugar cookies, hot chocolate, or gingerbread.
Christmas movies can give you a jolly feeling too. Sophomore Katie Burke said, “The Grinch is my favorite Christmas movie because I’ve been watching it ever since I was little.” Christmas movies are guaranteed to get you in the spirit.
No matter what you do to get in the spirit, be kind to everyone around you. The season is all about being merry, so do exactly that.
