The Best Gift You Can Give Yourself

The Best Gift You Can Give Yourself

During the holidays, people mistake giving their pocketbooks instead of giving their time. People buy more than they can afford, receive more than they need and prepare more food than they can consume.

Christmas is nothing like it was 50 years ago when the traditional Christmas was more spiritual than commercial. Commercialism has taken over Christmas.

Christmas has become all about the gifts that we receive under the Christmas tree, and not about spending time with friends and family, putting others before ourselves and giving back.  During this season most people lose the true meaning of Christmas through hoopla, presents, and decorations. Giving and receiving gifts have lost their sentimental value.

Instead of waiting on lines and spending endless hours shopping, stay home with your family to bake cookies and drink hot cocoa or watch a Christmas movie.

Instead of doing things for yourself you should think about doing things for others, especially the less fortunate. Donate food, adopt a family to purchase gifts for, send care packages for servicemen and women overseas, volunteer at a soup kitchen or go caroling at a nursing home.

Instead of worrying about all the stuff you are getting or not getting this holiday season think about all the things you do have. Focus on what Christmas is really about – being around those you love and enjoying each other’s company to the fullest.

I bet it will be the best gift you could give yourself!
