A 10 hour plane ride and 5,000 miles away from New York is the gorgeous country of Greece. Located in Southeast Europe, Greece has more than 1,200 islands and the eleventh longest coastline in the world.
With a Mediterranean climate, Greece has a lot of sun and very little rain. Senior Leandra Bakker went to Greece this summer and said, “The weather was perfect. There was not a rainy day and the temperature ranged from 100°to 80°. There wasn’t any humidity so it was really nice.”
Food is very diverse in Greece and there are many traditions from all different regions within Greek food. While I was visiting Greece we had a traditional Greek lunch in a Greek’s home. For appetizer we had Dokas which is a bruschetta on a crouton like bread. For lunch we had a meat with a onion and brown gravy. Dessert was yogurt with a strawberry topping.
Some of Greece’s major cities are Olympia and Athens, the capital of Greece and its the largest city. Some of the world’s oldest architecture, like the Parthenon is located in Athens. Olympia is where the first Olympic Games were held in 1896 and was held every four years to honor Zeus. Freshman Sophie Cohen says that her favorite part of Greece was “the ancient architecture like the Parthenon.” Her favorite city was Olympia.
With its gorgeous weather, amazing food, and ancient history, Greece would be a excellent place to visit and I recommend it to anyone!
