The high school library has new opportunities for students to get community service hours during a lunch period due to a collaboration with the WHB Public Library.
Every month the WHB Free Library brings a project to the high school. In the month of September, students created yarn pumpkins to be delivered to the residents of the Westhampton Care Center.
According to WHBHS librarian Mrs. Tunstead, “Last year Ms. Roberts [WHB Public Librarian] and I collaborated to offer service project opportunities once a month.”
This collaboration has continued this year, To earn the one community service hour credit, Mrs. Tunstead said, “Students receive a signed letter from the WHB free library that can be turned in to their guidance counselor.”
The last project was cards for veterans that will be delivered prior to Veterans Day. The project was completed on Friday, October 25.
Any student interested in participating should stop by the library before school the morning of the service project to get a lunch pass. Mrs. Tunstead is in the library for morning extra help starting at 7am every morning and can provide passes.
