WHBHS’s first annual Wellness Day was held on May 23rd. Thanks to organizers social worker Mrs. Gebhardt and psychologist Mrs. Martrano, the fair was a fun and successful event for students to join during their free periods.
Dating all the way back to last May, the Wellness Fair had been arranged since then to ensure all students knew they had support from the community. Fortunately, all local businesses that had been asked to contribute had come and if all goes well we can grow that same support going forward.
Mrs. Martrano said, “We called them to share our vision for the day and were fortunate enough that every business we reached out to, agreed to attend. A big part of Wellness Day being a success was the support and enthusiasm shown by our community.”
Some positive feedback the organizers had received from students and faculty were thanks to the generosity of vendors that had brought the lawn games, rock painting, Chick-Fil-A, and most definitely the air compression boots from 7 Fitness.
Regarding next year’s Wellness Day, a big goal of Gebhardt and Martrano is to “add some additional vendors and activities to meet the different interests and needs of our student body.”
7 Fitness vendor, Cody Hoyt said, “Being a local business that offers several different services, it was nice to be included in this event to show students what services we have. It was also important to reinforce how beneficial recovery is for all individuals. There were so many different types of services displayed at the fair, and having a recovery station was important.”
As a student I thought the Wellness Day brought so many benefits for students. The idea behind the fair is to let students know the importance of mental health, and teach them how to communicate their struggles rather than dealing with it all alone. Although it can be hard for some people, Wellness Day is a great first step.
The students, organizers, and faculty would like to give a big thank you to all the vendors who supported this journey including- 7 Fitness, Chick-Fil-A, Coastal MD, Hamptons Jiu Jitsu, HUGS, Jala Hot Yoga, Local Provisions, Kate Swezey, LKMSW & Oric, Northwell Health, Ocean Spa Beauty and Wellness, Pawcasso Art Studio, Southampton Town Youth Bureau, and the Westhampton Beach Public Library.
