At WHBHS, every few years we have what we call refresh years. This year is one of those years! We get to return our laptops and receive new ones.
The reason for the “refresh” is that our contract is up, but also, according to WHB’s Director of Technology, Mrs. Williams, “A refresh helps to ensure updated technology and battery life for our technology.” Mrs. Williams said we will be getting MacBook M2 laptops which will be similar in form and function as the current laptops.
In order for everything to go smoothly, it is important students are made aware of the protocols.
Laptop collection for seniors will start on June 13th. As for the rest of the students, returns will vary. Students are due to return their laptops after their last final/regents. To return your laptop, just turn it in to the deployment window between rooms 214 and 216 from 7:30AM to 2:30PM. Mr Bookamer said, “Some students will be able to keep laptops for specific summer assignment/research needs.” Students who need their laptops for summer assignments will be allowed to keep them as long as you inform the principal. You will be allowed to keep the laptop until around the week before school starts when the new laptops will be available.
Many students are worried about how they have lost things that are part of the return, such as the case or charger. It is recommended to just be sure that you have looked everywhere for those things, and if they can’t be found you will need to replace them. Here are the prices: Whole charger (30W USB-C power adapter)- $68 , Cable- $29, Block- $39, and Case- $44.99.
For students in grades 9-11 it is recommended to save all files to your google drive. Seniors can save everything to their personal storage. This is important because once the laptops are handed in, the entire local hard drive will immediately be deleted. Laptops will only be accepted back if they are in usable condition and they are clean. If you need any supplies to make sure of that, laptop central should have them. All components need to be from Apple. Nothing other than that will be accepted.
Lastly, any payments for missing items must be made by check only, written out to “WHB High School” – no cash will be accepted.
