Friday, February 4th was a night filled with fun and awareness.
Two amazing junior girls, Haley Shoeck and Casey Fuchs, came together to raise over $23,000 to support the American Heart Association. Both girls came together for two reasons, to spread awareness and to honor their fathers who have passed from sudden heart attacks.
Haley lost her father at the young age of eight and Casey’s dad died in the beginning of her freshmen year. Thinking of their favorite memories with their fathers were, Casey shared “Ice cream dates!”
Haley said it was hard to think of a favorite memory with her dad since she was so young when he passed. Her dad was a pilot and she said her favorite and last memory with her father was a flight they took to Atlantic City together.
The girls decided to do this dance now saying, “We are both at a point where we are okay with our dads passing and it’s for a great cause and we wanted to do something for the school.”
The dance was a huge success! The student body came together for a fun night that went to a great cause. The night was filled with dancing, great desserts, photography and raffles. Michelle Z photography captured all the moments throughout the dance and DJ Music To Your Ears kept the students dancing all night long, especially when Joe Palagonia hopped into the middle of it all and started break dancing! All the students were decked out with glow sticks, party beads and funny sunglasses while the cafeteria was decorated with balloons, heart candies and other decorations.
Haley and Casey have never worked with the American Heart Association before but they have now started to Junior Committee and will be working with them much more often. This night was a huge success with over 100 students attending and acceding their original goal of raising $5,000. The night was fun and eventful and a great way to tribute Haley and Casey’s fathers.
