Ethan Dornfeld walks WHBHS hallways as an average junior. But no one knows the heart of gold Ethan really has. If you ever wonder what we do with all the extra food from the cafeteria, you might as well ask Ethan. Every Friday he brings food to the Men’s Shelter to feed the number of homeless men that reside there.
Like every other heartwarming story Ethan has his inspiration.
During the summer of his 9th grade year he went to a concert and saw an add for the Rock and Wrap it Up program. The program is for the leftover food from bands that perform concerts. The Rock and Wrap It Up program sends the food to various charities. Ethan liked the idea so he made WHB the first school in Suffolk County to participate in the program.
Every Friday, Ethan takes the extra, good, food to the Mens Shelter in Riverhead. Once a month, he and his family make a huge homecooked dinner to bring to the men that stay at the shelter. “It really creates a sense of dignity and importance for the men,” says Ethan. Ethan was named ‘Point Person of the East End’ for the ‘Snack Wrap’ program that is sponsored by the Mets. Snack Wrap, which is another food drive that Ethan is apart of, is actually sponsored by all NY sports teams.
Its obvious that when it comes to Ethan Dornfeld that there is a lot more than meets the eye. He has touched the lives of many homeless men and I’m sure many people here at WHBHS.
