Owen Jessop has committed to become a Wildcat and will be taking his golf skills to the next level at Davidson College.
Owen said, “I really love golf and I couldn’t imagine myself in college without it. I would miss the competitive aspect of my life. I think I would feel lost without that.”
Davidson is one of the country’s most selective colleges. Located in Davidson, NC, the golf team competes in the A-10, Atlantic 10 conference.
According to Owen, the process of choosing his college was very stressful, saying that most of the process is out of the recruit’s hands, However, he was ecstatic to receive an offer from Davidson, his #1 choice going into the process.
Owen started playing golf at a young age with his dad. He started to really take it seriously in his freshman year of high school, when he moved to Westhampton Beach from Brooklyn. Before that he played basketball and soccer.
Golf is a hard mental and physical game and Owen’s mentors have immensely helped him become not only a better golfer but a better person as well, he says about Mr. Musumeci, his high school coach. “His love for the game of golf has had a large impact on who I am today.”
The WHB golf team has been in headlines recently. Owen and partner Zach Burger recently won the Sebonack tournament reclaiming their 2022 title. The team work they displayed while playing an individual sport is an impressive skill to have.
Owen says it is motivating to be on a team because it helps you understand and learn the game more. He said, “The other guys on the team have made me want to become a better golfer so I can help this team win a championship.”
We wish Owen the best of luck at Davidson.
