Senior Haley Waszkelewicz is going to UCLA! This past month, Haley decided to decommit from UMiami and commit to UCLA.
UCLA is a prestigious university, with a 9% acceptance rate and total enrollment about 45,000. Located in Los Angeles, California, it is considered one of the best educational universities in the country.
From the first decision of UMiami, Haley liked everything that Miami had to offer. “I was so impressed with their advising and job placement rate and class size.” Haley also knew she wanted to go far, and explore the other side of the country as well.
Already being top of the class, as well as receiving honors in Miami, Haley still had to see what truly motivated her in life for her future. On top of that, most of the people that attend UMiami, statistically come from New York, New Jersey, etc.
Haley found at first that Miami was easy to find people she had things in common with, but she also wanted to meet new people who liked different things. She said, “College is my time to branch out with people from totally different backgrounds while still being on the common ground of ending up at the same school.”
A huge dream of Haley’s was to get into UCLA, a huge part of the reason Haley wanted to go to UCLA was because her sister attended UCLA as well. Haley has visited her sister multiple times, so she already had insight with the university. She liked that UCLA was located on the other side of the country, because she wanted to see new places and meet new people.
Haley was in the school lobby when she got off the waitlist to UCLA. Haley says, “I was in immediate shock when I got that email from them.”
Haley was very appreciative of what both schools had to offer for her, and she is very excited to travel across the country. She will miss home in Westhampton Beach, but can’t wait to see what the future holds.
