Get ready NYC! The Chamber Singers are coming your way! The music group is suiting up, tying their bowties, and clasping their pearls for a special performance with world renowned composer Eric Whitacre at Carnegie Hall next week!
With 13 returning singers and 17 new members, the Chamber Singers will be attending a weekend of workshops and performances. The group of 30 will be working with Eric Whitacre and NYC professionals throughout the three days. “I receive notifications from the ACDA(American Choral Directors Association) when auditions come up, which are only open to their members,” said choral director Mr. Rubinstein. As a member himself, Mr. Rubinstein found out about the program “Sing with Eric” at Carnegie through their e-mails and was eager to jump at the audition opportunity.
The audition process was long and lengthy, but worth the anticipated wait. Based on video recording of the Chamber Singers’s performance at the Festivals of Music competition in Boston last spring, Mr. Rubinstein posted their work on YouTube and sent it in to the DCINY(Distinguished Concerts International-New York) for review. After the organization received the audition tapes, they then narrowed down to a select number of choruses and had an interview with the directors of each group. Luckily for the WHBHS Chamber Singers, their soothing and passionate vocals along with Mr. Rubinstein’s impressing interview, made the cut. “Whitacre is an amazing person. Carnegie Hall is a beautiful place and it is an amazing opportunity that I could not pass up,” recalled sophomore Stephanie Fitt.
Congrats to the WHBHS Chamber Singers!
