For many of the WHBHS Chamber Singers, performing at Carnegie Hall in March 2013 will be marked as a once in a lifetime achievement. This will be the first time the Chamber Singers have performed at such a venue with high notoriety.
The Chamber Singers will be performing at Carnegie Hall on March 24, , with workshops from March 22-March 24, 2013. Eric Whitacre, a famous composer and conductor, will mentor them. “Whitacre is ‘the dude’ of contemporary choral music,” stated senior Francesco Logozzo.
Choral and Chamber Singers director Eric Rubinstein was ecstatic to find out his group will be performing at Carnegie Hall. Although Mr. Rubinstein’s groups have performed internationally at Isleworth, Coventry Cathedral, and St Paul’s Cathedral (all in England), none of his groups have performed at Carnegie Hall. “This will help expose our school and community. However, we are under high pressure to live up to the reputation of the space,” stated Mr. Rubinstein.
Along with the high achievements comes a high price. It costs a total of $900 per Chamber Singer, covering food, hotel, transportation, and registration. Sophomore Kimmie Vish said, “It’s expensive, but it’s Carnegie Hall, so it’s expected.” Senior Jake Lorefice stated, “It’s a fair price because it’s a rare opportunity for someone this young to perform at Carnegie Hall.”
Congratulations to the Chamber Singers! Come and support them on March 24!
