The junior ambulance is a unique program for the students of the WHB community. It teaches students how to become an EMT and help people out in our town.
With 91 juniors who are involved in the program, this year is the largest group yet. Many are hoping to become a certified EMT and are offered the course through the Junior Ambulance program. Juniors go on actual calls and learn how to conduct emergency services from members of the WHB War Memorial Ambulance.
Senior Mia Pazera, who has been on the junior ambulance for two years, is now a certified EMT. She said, “The best part of the junior ambulance is the sense of community and family. The adults and professionals in the building are so welcoming and get you excited to learn and participate in calls.”
English teacher Mr. Dorskind began the junior ambulance program, and they said. “We are doing a lot of great things for the community and helping kids get into great schools and teach them life long lessons.” Mr Dorskind said their junior program is the largest in New York state and probably the country. He believes that everyone should take joining the program into consideration.
Junior Ava Failla has been on the junior ambulance program for one year. About her reason for joining the ambulance service, she said, “I want to be in the medical field, and I thought this prior knowledge would be good.”
