For most people, math can be boring and hard to understand. But with the right teacher, it can be manageable.
Algebra II teacher Ms Mecca’s way of teaching is effective in helping students understand hard math concepts. She has the ability to keep the class entertained with jokes and is always making her students laugh.
Mrs Mecca, who has been teaching at WHBHS for 32 years, loves helping her students understand math. She said, “Math is cool. I like when the students understand it after helping them.” Her favorite part about her job is helping out any student that needs math help, or just needs to talk. “Don’t take life too seriously, make sure you laugh everyday” is some advice she gives to her students.
Her students agree that her humor makes Algebra way more interesting. Sophomores Sofia Amodemo and Tess Ashley both agree that her jokes make class light-hearted. Tess said, “She’s really supportive and comforting and she always wants to help you.”
Sophomore Meadow Dubrovin agreed, “She’s always entertaining. Math is never boring!”
Mrs Gruenwald has been teaching with her for so many years and appreciates their regular conversations about how to help their students grow.
Mrs Mecca attended WHB for high school and graduated in 1986. Her favorite teacher was Mr. Bill Matros. She attended Binghamton University as a math major. She then went on to become a teacher of her own teaching high school math, and was also a dedicated volleyball coach for the first 10 years she taught here.
She loves hanging out with her friends, her two sons and yellow lab. Mrs Mecca loves a boat day and a relaxing summer day on the beach.
Mrs Mecca has personally helped me grow in my math, when it was really hard for me in her workshop. She always teaches me tricks to understand Algebra better. Whenever I need to laugh or talk to someone she is always there!
Thank you Mrs. Mecca for making math manageable!
