Childhood Cancer Awareness
Over the weekend, while scrolling through social media, many people were posting images of Disney characters. And after doing a little research, I learned the posts were for childhood cancer awareness week.
Many WHB students were getting involved by posting a picture of Disney character with the caption, “I intend to make Instagram full of Disney characters for childhood cancer awareness week. Like and you will be assigned a character.”
Sophomore Isabella Topping explained how to get involved. “To start, you can like one of the participating teens posts, get assigned a Disney character, repost the photo and continue the trend.” Isabella encourages posting on social media. “It will help spread awareness about childhood cancer because our generation of teens are obsessed with our phones and are constantly on social media. I feel if we try and spread childhood cancer on social media many of us will actually read about it and try to help the cause.”
Another participating student, Ashley Quiambao, said that social media has the ability to reach many people even just from one single post since that one post can be spread around or shared to many others. Ashley also thinks that the cause would be more effective if there was a direct link to the organization to learn more about childhood cancer awareness.
Sophomore Julia Donato also urges everyone to participate. “Bringing awareness might help and encourage many to donate money towards research.”
In the U.S, about 16 thousand children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year and a fourth of all the patients don’t survive the disease.
Help bring awareness.
