Junior Prom Concerns

Junior Prom Concerns

With Junior prom approaching many students have concerns. The top three most important things students are worrying about is finding a prom date, prom transportation to and from prom and the possibility of breathalyzers at prom.

Let’s tackle each issue one by one. Junior class advisor Ms. Juma answered all of the following questions to ease junior’s minds.

PROM DATES

Q: Why are we only allowed to bring someone who attends this school to junior prom?

Ms. Juma: “The junior prom is a special event for juniors who attend Westhampton Beach High School.  In order to keep this as an event FOR WHBHS juniors it is the belief of the school that celebrating with your graduating class makes this event a more memorable experience.  Additionally, as seniors, students will have the opportunity to bring dates outside of the school.”

TRANSPORTATION

Q: What is the reasoning for buses being the only transportation allowed to and from prom?

Ms. Juma: “Using the busses for transportation to and from the prom ensures that every junior is getting to the prom and leaving safely.  This puts the minds of teachers, administrators, parents and even students at ease.  For some students it also takes away the stress of being put in an awkward social situation.  Because the Country Club is so close to our school, taking the bus is a more cost effective option than having students pay however much for a 5-minute limo ride down the road.”

BREATHALYZERS?

Q: Is the word about breathalyzers being at prom true, if so why is it necessary?

Ms. Juma: “There will not be breathalyzers at prom however, as stated in the letter sent home a student that attends a school function under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or violates any other school rule will be suspended for five days. Each person attending the prom will be check and through out the night there will be teachers and administrators watching.
