The sweetest and most understanding teacher in the school has to be English teacher Ms. Juma. She is so devoted to her students and always has a smile on her face.
When she is not teaching English, running student council, or acting as class advisor to the juniors, you might find her helping students with personal or school-related problems; she gives the best advice.
Ms. Juma, graduate of Penn State University, originally wasn’t planning on going to college to become an English teacher. In fact she wanted to be a librarian but needed a teaching degree to become one. She chose to keep the English degree and become a teacher. It was the “best option” for her, because, she said, “I would learn a lot about literature that would help me as a librarian.” In 2008, she got a leave replacement at WHBHS and the following year, she was hired as a full time teacher.
Ms. Juma’s dedication to her students is what makes everyone love her so much. Junior Skyler Arrasate said, “I think that Ms. Juma is such a great teacher because she always listens to what I had to say. I know I can go to her about anything. Having her again as a teacher this year makes me so happy!”
Sophomore Joe Bonner said, “I love her attitude, the way she acts and how she treats us with respect.”
About her philosophy for teaching high school students, Ms. Juma said, “Teachers need to be approachable and patient. Whatever we are teaching, we need to try to find a way to make teenagers want to listen to us and relate to them.”
Ms. Juma should keep doing what she’s doing. Students love her and she brightens everyone’s day!
