Justin Bieber has created quite the controversy throughout the school. Whether you already know this, or are just learning about it as you read, the controversy is there. We must note, however, that this hubbub in our school is not as prevalent as the worldwide controversy: Kim Kardashian received death threats for hanging out with Justin!
Open your ears and you might hear a girl shrieking through the hallway, “Oh my godddd! I just heard a new song by Justin Bieber! Did you see his new video? His movie was so beautiful, I cried! I love him!” Then you might hear a guy in near proximity reacting. He’ll groan, “Ugh, are you serious? He’s like a 12 year old girl!”
Where do you stand? Here, test yourself: what happens when you hear these two universal words? Justin Bieber… So? Anything? Is your heart pounding? Are you disgusted? Or are you unaffected? No matter your reaction, you’re not the only one who feels that way.
Senior, Stephanie Kossman, who obviously doesn’t hold the pop star in high regard, said “I don’t know, I probably first heard him on one of those, like, now 87 commercials. He sounds like a girl and he’s not talented, I don’t understand why people find him so attractive.”
Freshman Noah Terry agrees with Stephanie, but he takes it to another level. “I saw the movie. I hated every second of it. I dislike that people worship him; it’s like idol worship. If girls are actually crying over him, there’s something wrong.”
English teacher, Mr. Dorskind doesn’t really have an opinion, and hardly knows anything about him. “I haven’t seen his movie, but when I was young I used to watch Leave it to Beaver!” Okay, Mr. Dorskind, nice try. When he was asked where Biebs was born, he responded with “Uh, Queens.” Again, nope. He was actually born in Canada. Mr. Dorskind does however, like the fact that “the kid’s got spirit.”
So we’ve got all these negative views and then we’ve got those girls and women who are, well, obsessed. Junior Krissy Hoefer says, “He has a really good voice. He’s attractive. I would do anything for him, except shave my head.” When asked if she would eat cow tongue to meet the star, a challenge another fan recently accepted at radio station 104-7 KCLD, Krissy said, “Yeah, I would.” Talk about true love!
Ask junior Jessica Mendelson and she’ll tell you flat out, “First time I heard him, I was at a birthday party and my friend Sammi had her iPod. His first song came on and his picture was on the album cover. I was like ‘OMG HE’S SO CUTE!’ the rest was history.” She continues, “What people don’t realize is that he’s really talented and he handles himself well.” I asked her if she could name five JB songs in a matter of seconds. That was like second-nature to her. “‘Baby’, ‘Somebody to Love’, ‘Eenie Meenie’, ‘U Smile’, and ‘Overboard’.” Nice job, Jessica!
Finally, Mrs. Phillips Mett, our very own newspaper advisor, also had something to say. “I have the fever, but I’m not necessarily obsessed. I liked his old haircut!” She continued, “He’s a cute boy with a good voice. I saw him on the Today Show and that’s when I first liked him. His interviews are articulate and calm, which I like about him.”
Ok, as for myself, I’ll admit, I love him. He’s the cutest kid, and he’s actually very talented. His voice sounds good naturally and he knows how to make people happy and work a crowd. I’m a beliber, but I know not to get too obsessed. You have to find a good medium.
Maybe some facts on the Biebs will change the minds of those out there who are known as the anti-fans… or not.
– Justin was two years old when he began drumming on chairs! Talk about natural ability!
– He’s thankful! A fan once wrote him a version of “12 days of Christmas” and instead titled it “12 days of Bieber” and gave it to him during his show. He gave her everything she mentioned in the song that same night! Such as Nikes, and a few hairflips 😉
– Fans are faithful, but are they a little too faithful? Girls were caught sneaking into his hotel room! Some girls were even injured during a riot to see the star. However, his hair sold for $40,668 after it was provided to Ellen DeGeneres for a charity auction. At least it was for a good cause!
– He’s got pride for his country and hometown! According to Rolling Stone, Justin stated, “Canada is the best country in the world. We go to doctors and we don’t have to worry about paying them.”
– He’s not judgmental! “I don’t really believe in abortion,” Justin said during a Rolling Stone interview, “It’s like, killing a baby? I believe everything happens for a reason.” He makes it clear, however, that he’s not in the position to judge.
– He also stated, “I think you should wait (to have sex) for the person you’re… in love with.”
– Finally he’s a good guy who stands his ground! Justin wrote on his Twitter account, “I have not joined the Illuminati or any other cult. I’m a Christian and I pray before every show. I am thankful for every blessing.”
